Some rather more serious poetry - a rare thing in these parts!
Motorist's Lament on Killing a Moorhen
Stupid bird! Out of the hedge, walking fast, Another behind. Chasing? Wooing? Ease the power, Steer closer to the white line, Should miss it. Would have missed it, If it hadn't run. Too late. Hardly hear the impact, Certainly don't feel it. Stuttered heartbeat, Guilty look in the mirror. Sorry bundle of black feathers, One wing flapping. Useless. Other traffic bearing down. Go home and check the car, Make sure the paint isn't scratched. Sienna Red metallic, Bitch to match up.
